Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get a library card?

Please come into the library to fill out a registration form and receive your library card.  You will need a current picture ID and proof of address.

How can I place a hold on an item?

Visit our catalog at https://carnegie.catalog.aspencat.info. Sign in on the top-right corner using your library card number and password. Enter the item you want in the search bar, and click on the "Place Hold" button on the right side of the item listing.
When the item arrives at the library, a librarian will contact you.

How do I request an item through Interlibrary Loan?

First, check that we don’t already have the item in our catalog. If we do not have it in our catalog, contact us with title, author information and format.

How will I know when my hold has arrived?

We will notify you through your preferred channel (check your account preferences). You can also view the status through your online account.

Do you have special library cards for teachers, babysitters, homeschoolers, etc.?

We do not offer specialized library cards at this time.

I have a hold on an item, but I might be out of town when it arrives — what can I do?

You can suspend your hold and then resume it again at a later date without ending up at the end of the waitlist. To do this, log in to your library account, navigate to your requests, select the items you want to suspend, and then select "Freeze Hold." Choose the date you want your request to be reactivated. Or, call us at 719-846-6841 and staff can help. If your hold has already arrived, the only option is to cancel it and add you back at the end of the queue.

Do you have a document shredder available for public use?

We do not have a document shredder available for public use.

How do I print from the public computers?

You will send all print jobs to our printer which is named “IR-ADV C3525.” Pick up print jobs at the front desk.

Can I print at the library from a laptop?

You will need to save your items to a flash drive.  Once you have the items saved to your flash drive, you will be able to use a public computer and print from there.

Do you accept book and other material donations?

Yes, we do accept donations but please call to see if we have the space to accept large donations.

What kind of donations are accepted?

  • We prefer no more than one box per visit.
  • Items should be newer than 10 years old.
  • Items should be in good condition.
  • Please no older media such as VHS, cassettes and albums
  • Please no encyclopedias, textbooks or reference books.

Why are donations being limited?

  • Sad to say, most donated books are not suitable for reselling. They must be recycled. The cost of recycling is high.
  • Space is at a premium in our library. Allocating space is becoming increasingly harder.
  • Sorting donations requires a lot of time for staff to sort, evaluate and maintain.

What happens to books that I donate?

  • Some may be added to the library collection.
  • Some may be used to supplement prize giveaways for various events.
  • Some will be taken to Books & More
  • Items that cannot be managed in one of these other options will be recycled.
